What Is AI?

AI stands for Artificial Intelligence, which refers to computer systems designed to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. These systems can learn from experience, adapt to new information, and execute complex functions that mimic cognitive abilities.

What AI Does: AI systems process data, recognize patterns, make decisions, and solve problems. They can understand language, recognize images, play games, drive vehicles, diagnose diseases, and much more.

How AI Works: Modern AI relies heavily on machine learning, where algorithms improve through exposure to data rather than following explicitly programmed rules. Deep learning, a subset using neural networks with multiple layers, has driven recent breakthroughs in areas like image recognition and natural language processing.

What Is Generative AI?

Generative AI is a category of artificial intelligence that creates new content—text, images, music, code, video, and more—rather than simply analyzing or classifying existing data. These systems learn patterns from training data and use that knowledge to generate original outputs.

What GenAI Does: Generative AI systems can understand context, follow complex instructions, work across multiple languages and formats, and adapt their outputs based on feedback. They can brainstorm ideas, draft content, solve problems, and assist with creative and analytical tasks.

How GenAI Works: Generative AI models are trained on vast datasets to understand underlying patterns and structures. When prompted, they use this learned knowledge to produce new content that resembles their training data but is not copied from it.
